The Ontario Bioscience Innovation Organization (OBIO®) founded in 2009, is a not-for-profit, membership based organization engaged in strategy, programming, policy development and advocacy to further the commercialization of Ontario’s human health science companies positioning Ontario as a leader in the international marketplace. OBIO advances this goal through collaborative partnerships with industry, the investment community, academia, patients and government.
OBIO led the Ontario Bioscience Economic Strategy Team (OBEST®) in developing a province-wide strategic vision for addressing key issues such as capital access, capabilities/people, innovation adoption, market receptivity and export. OBEST is a mobilization of stakeholders and their organizations, including entrepreneurs, representatives of small, medium and multinational enterprises, finance specialists, investors, researchers, educators, consultants, government representatives, attorneys, accountants, patient organizations and health care professionals. The OBEST strategy is the catalyst that continues to be refined, guided by the priorities identified by OBIO’s Members. OBEST touches all that OBIO delivers to support a sustainable health science sector that creates jobs, attracts expertise and improves health outcomes while building a prosperous economy in Ontario and Canada.
OBIO is engaged in policy and government relations initiatives at the municipal, provincial and federal levels, advocating for the successful development and commercialization of bioscience and human health technologies in Ontario and Canada. The OBIO Health Science MPP Caucus, made up of Provincial politicians from all parties, meets regularly and are dedicated to the progress of the Health Science Industry. Interconnectivity builds an industry. OBIO offers industry peer-to-peer events and cross stakeholder exclusive experiences that bring executives together in the fields of industry, academia, government and the investment community. OBIO’s interconnectivity activities build industry engagement and commitment to a shared vision of a vital Health Science Sector where companies start, scale and succeed in Ontario and Canada.
